This diamond cut is known to be the most rarest diamond cut that has existed to date, making up only 2% of all diamond cuts in the world today! Asscher cut diamonds were first created in the year 1902 by Joseph Asscher of the Asscher diamond company. However, it was not until the 1920s that this diamond cut became popular because of its vintage art-deco vibes! The original Asscher cut diamonds had 58 facets, but since they have been redesigned so many times since then, the facets are now up to 78, which has raised their sparkle quotient. Did you know that Asscher cut diamonds were the first-ever diamond cut that was patented? This was done to effectively protect this cut from being replicated by anyone, but it was not until WWII that the patent expired and people started to copy this diamond cut.
You often see Asscher cut diamonds in engagement rings, earrings and solitaire necklaces. The popularity of Asscher diamonds rose quite quickly because of their unique shape, step-cut facets and sparkle. However, when you see an Asscher cut diamond for the first time, we are sure you might mistake this cut for an emerald cut diamond. Now, why is that? The similarity between the Asscher cut diamond and an emerald cut diamond is the fact that both of these diamond cuts belong to the step cut family. However, Asscher cut diamonds are square in shape with clipped corners, and if you look at this diamond shape from the top view, you will see an ‘X’ shape.
Asscher diamonds have become really popular in recent years because this diamond shape can maximise light reflection and enhance sparkle. As we already mentioned, this diamond cut was introduced to the diamond world in the year 1902, and since then it has been listed among the favourite cuts of jewellers, because of its elegant lines and beautiful symmetry. In all honesty, this diamond-shape is perfect for setting in any jewellery, but when an Asscher cut diamond is set in an engagement ring, a pendant, or a pair of stud earrings, they simply look mesmerising.
You might not know this, but Asscher cut diamonds are known to be one of the rarer cuts available on the market today. So, if you get your hands on this diamond cut, it would simply mean one thing, and that is that you own a diamond cut that is truly special and that not many people own, which makes it more valuable.
